We believe there is a significant opportunity for us to work together to reduce claim costs while maintaining the quality and integrity of your policyholders’ homes. We hope to have the opportunity to meet with you in the near future to discuss this proposition.
Approximately fifteen years ago, my partner and I were traditional roofing contractors. Like thousands of others, we chased storms, worked with homeowners and insurance adjusters, managed roofing crews, and replaced damaged roofs throughout the country.
One claim changed everything.
We inspected a five-year-old, 34-square asphalt shingle roof that had already been adjusted and approved for replacement by State Farm. The claim totaled approximately $26,000, and the homeowner had already received an Actual Cash Value payment of $8,500. After carefully inspecting the roof, we found only 32 functional hail impacts.
Standing on that roof, we asked ourselves a simple question:
Why replace a roof that could be professionally repaired?
We estimated that a complete repair could be performed for approximately $2,995. The homeowner agreed immediately. After locating the proper materials—a difficult task—we completed the repair in approximately three hours. The homeowner was delighted with the results, and we were paid that same day.
That single repair became the foundation of what is now Planet Safe Roof Repair.
Over the past fifteen years we have refined every aspect of our process. We perfected our repair techniques, developed specialized materials, established reliable supply chains, and built a business model designed specifically for the insurance industry.
Today, a major adhesive manufacturer produces a proprietary formulation exclusively for our process under private label, and we purchase ceramic-coated roofing granules directly from 3M in commercial quantities. Most importantly, our complete repair methodology is protected by a United States Utility Patent.
During those fifteen years, we also learned something equally important.
Our greatest obstacle has never been the homeowner.
When homeowners are presented with the option of repairing rather than replacing their roof, approximately 95% express one of three concerns:
- “My roofer says this is a scam.”
- “My insurance company says the roof has to be replaced or they’ll cancel my coverage.”
- “I’ve been told that insurance companies are required by law to replace hail-damaged roofs.”
These objections are not created by homeowners. They originate from long-standing industry assumptions and inconsistent claim practices that only you can change.
We have never believed the solution lies in convincing homeowners otherwise. The real change must begin with insurance carriers applying the repair provisions that already exist within many of their own policies.
During our research, we reviewed numerous homeowner insurance policies and were surprised to discover that many already provide for repair when repair will restore the property to its pre-loss condition. In many cases, replacement has simply become the default practice rather than the contractual requirement.
With a patented repair process, independent durability testing by Haag Engineering, and more than fifteen years of successful field experience, we believe the industry now has a practical opportunity to significantly reduce unnecessary roof replacements while maintaining policyholder satisfaction.
After inspecting thousands of hail-damaged roofs throughout the United States, we have consistently observed the same pattern.
Every hailstorm produces two distinct claim populations.
The first consists of roofs located within the storm’s epicenter, where damage is severe enough that replacement is unquestionably the proper solution. These roofs are not our market.
The second—and much larger—group consists of roofs located around the storm’s periphery. These roofs have functional hail damage but remain structurally sound and are excellent candidates for professional repair.
Based on our field experience, approximately 60% of hail-damaged asphalt shingle roofs fall into this repairable category.
The financial implications are substantial.
Several years ago, we presented this concept to a regional insurance company headquartered in Texas. Although the company only wrote policies within Texas, it belonged to a family of affiliated insurers operating throughout the hail-prone regions of the United States.
Because of the potential savings, we proposed granting the organization exclusive access to the Planet Safe Roof Repair process, excluding all competing insurance carriers.
While they ultimately declined the exclusive arrangement, the discussions confirmed something we had long believed: the opportunity to reduce claim severity through professional roof repair is real, measurable, and significant.
The following example was prepared for this company. Some of the information used was developed by the National Association of Realtors (average home prices and deductibles) and by the Texas Department of Insurance. The company serviced roughly 40,000 claims in 2025.

We believe the insurance industry is entering a new era where repair, rather than automatic replacement, can become the preferred solution whenever it restores the roof to its pre-loss condition. This approach benefits everyone involved.
- Insurance carriers reduce claim severity and improve profitability.
- Homeowners avoid unnecessary roof replacement while retaining the roof originally installed on their home.
- The environment benefits from keeping thousands of tons of asphalt shingles out of landfills each year.
